This film was produced in 2009 as thriller/horror.
I saw this film in the cinema, and didn't really feel that it met its expectations. Overall, i thought the film was unimpressive and the plot lacked the essential criterion that is needed in a good horror.
After researching film trailers for my Media coursework, and coming across The Unborn trailer, i was surprisingly impressed with the effects used in creating it.
Characters
At the beginning of the trailer, we are immediately introduced to the main character who is the girl. The second character that is shown is the young boy, whose first appearance is when he is leaning over the cot and turns to punch the girl. Throughout the whole trailer we are introduced to 11 characters in total. In our trailer, i don't think we will use as many, as i found that this trailer gave too much away within the characters and their storylines.
Sound/Music
Immediately, as the trailer opens, the audience becomes aware of a background noise that breaks the silence. This continues into a 'heartbeat' at around 9 seconds in. One element that is particularly prominent is when the boy turns around to punch her and a loud noise suddenly occurs at the same time as the action. At around 25 seconds in, delicate piano plays in the background, creating an eerie atmosphere that builds the tension. Dialogue continues behind this, introducing the main story. The piano stops around 50 seconds, when a heartbeat takes over again and the sound of an old projector playing continues behind the dialogue, again informing the audience of what the film is about while still building tension. Eerie music continues and builds to a crescendo until at 1min 07 when all sound is muted and a paced drumming takes over. The camera then focuses on the girl's eye and loud gunshot-like sound mimics her eye opening, i find this very effective as timing is very important. From this scene on, the pacing drum music continues and builds up at certain points. Towards the end of the trailer, the drumming pace increases and screaming builds up to a point until it breaks and the title of the film covers the screen. This then fades and the heartbeat continues again by itself, until the young girl screams at something the audience can't see, making the viewer want to know more. This is a clever way of enticing people to watch the film.
