My partner and I have decided to use 7 characters in our trailer that will mimic Propp's idea. We will have a group of 5 main friends that will feature at the start of the trailer together then be shown individually when they face the terror of the haunted hopsital. We will then have 2 'scary characters'; one wearing a gas mask and the other is undecided but will aid the ghostly gas masked person.
We have decided that the 5 main characters will be our friends, as they interact well and will feel comfortable around eachother. 2 of these are also drama students, so we will be able to use their dramatic ability in our trailer.
Ideas for Trailer..
Mel and I have discussed all of our own ideas for our trailer and put them together to form what we think will be a successful teaser.
1) Opening scene - camera to show establishing shot of scene where a group of teenagers are sitting, where they are looking at an article that shows paranormal activity in the hospital. Camera focuses on each indivdual as they speak, informing viewers of their intentions to visit the hospital one night.
2) Camera switches to hospital, possible establishing shot to show the daunting buildings and the size of the characters compared to it.
3) Sequence of pulling shots that show eerie places and the apprehension of the teenagers.
4) Quick flash of the gas masked man/other 'scary character'.
5) Camera goes blank providing a space for the slogan that reads 'Curiosity..' then fades into '..got the better of them'.
6) Camera then focuses on body parts and facial expressions extrememly quickly to show the terror each indivdual is facing (showing they are alone).
7)Camera focuses on one teenagers breathing with all other sound muted, followed by a chilling scream and the title of the film and release date.
My partner and i have decided to use really quick shots after the slogan appears as it will be extremely effective to viewers as they will only get a glimpse of what is happening.
Ideas for film poster..
For an effective poster, my partner and i have decided that we would like the main feature to be of the gas masked man with a very dark background behind but you are just able to make out the hospital. We would like the arches of the hospital to be fairly visible in the background so that viewers can relate it to the film and get an idea of the setting. We would like the whole poster to be mainly dark greens and blacks to give an eerie feel making the film seem extremely scary. We also want the title of the film in scary writing at the top with possibly the slogan as well situated at the bottom along with release date and directors etc.
Ideas for magazine cover..
For our magazine front cover, Mel and I have decided to make it different from our poster. We possibly want a picture of one of the teenager's face with a frightening expression, maybe as they are running and turn to look behind them. We want the expression of panic to be extremely evident here to show how scary the whole film is. We want the colours to be bold but still dark to give the horror feel, with the title of the magazine at the top and all the other usual pugs around the edge.
I will be analysing both posters and magazine covers of the horror genre while we continue to film our trailer outside of school. All analysis will be show on here.
